Windows LAPS and OVERLAPS
This is a quick post to let you know that we are aware of the recent announcement from Microsoft regarding their updated version of LAPS, now called Windows LAPS. This new version completely replaces the legacy LAPS, and will come as default in Windows 10/11 (Pro, EDU and Enterprise editions), and Windows Server 2019 and 2022. It includes several new features and security improvements such as password encryption, a password history (already implemented in OVERLAPS), and post-authentication resets.
We understand that many of our valued OVERLAPS customers may be wondering about the impact of this announcement on your organisation. To address these concerns, we will be releasing a more detailed blog post in the coming days that will cover the key differences to expect between LAPS and Windows LAPS, our plans for adding support to OVERLAPS, and to provide some guidance on the migration process for those currently using LAPS.
We want to assure you that we are committed to providing you with the latest information and tools to help you maintain the security of your organisation’s systems and data. We encourage you to stay tuned for our upcoming blog post on Windows LAPS, and thank you for your continued trust in our products and services.
Kindest regards,
The Int64 Software Support Team
Update 19th April 2023
We apologize for the delay in our full blog post. Rest assured that our team has been working tirelessly to research the changes to LAPS and add support to OVERLAPS. We are excited to announce that we will be releasing a beta patch this week that will offer full support for Windows LAPS managed passwords, including Legacy LAPS mode, Unencrypted passwords, and Encrypted passwords.
We understand that migrating to a new system can be a daunting process, which is why we are still planning to follow up with a comprehensive blog post to ensure that everyone feels confident about the changes and the migration process. Following that, we will be diligently undertaking the significant task of updating all of our documentation to reflect the changes.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to improve our product and provide top-notch support to our valued customers.
